007 Road to a Million is directed by Julian Jones and produced by 72 Films and MGM Alternative in collaboration with James Bond producers. The adventure reality show is hosted by Brian Cox and has eight episodes with a runtime of about 40-60 minutes.
In this show, nine pairs of regular people embark on an exciting journey inspired by James Bond. They face a series of challenges and travel the globe in search of hidden questions. By successfully finding and answering these questions, they have a chance to win a life-changing prize of £1,000,000. Each pair must find a total of 10 hidden questions.
The contestants must complete difficult tasks in different countries, similar to those seen in James Bond movies. These challenges will test their physical and mental abilities to the extreme. Each correct answer to a question will earn them a progressively higher amount of money. If they answer a question incorrectly, their journey will come to an end.
The contestants featured in the show include Josh Ali, Kamara Davis, Joey Bone, James Bone, Nick Ashton-Jones, Keith Curtis, Colin Barnes, Daniel Fenner, Jenny Dorward, Beth Foxwell, Daniella Gualtieri, Grace Nicoll, James O’Neil, Sam O’Neil, Tanaka Nyoni, James, Saiqa Pirmohamed, and Sana Pirmohamed.
Who won 007 Road to a Million?
In the initial episodes, Sana and Saiqa, the two sisters were the first ones to be eliminated from the show, when they answered the second question (worth 10,000 euros) incorrectly. Similarly, Grace & Daniela and Tanaka & James were also eliminated in level 1 as well. Thus, winning 5,000 euros at most.
Out of the remaining 6 teams, Keith & Nick (ex-cops) were eliminated from level 2 (worth 25,000 euros) in Italy, when they couldn’t guess the prison time of the thief who stole famous art pieces from the French Museum, in 2010. Followed by James and Sam, a father-son duo, who lost at level 3 (worth 100,000 euros), along with Colin & Danny, who also got the 100,000 euros question wrong. The team losing at level 2 was able to take away 10,000 euros home, while those who got level 3 questions wrong got 50,000 euros to take home.
The last three teams that were able to clear the first four levels around Scotland, Italy, Chile, Jamaica, Brazil and Turkey, found themselves in Switzerland for the fifth level. By the level 4, they all had won 300,000 euros to take home. The next level 5 consisted of three questions in total worth 500k, 800k and eventually 1 million euros. The final teams were – James and Joey Bone (brothers), Josh and Kamara (married couple), and Beth and Jen (military nurses).
All three teams were dropped amidst the Swiss Alps (separately) and were given the geographical coordinates, through a text message, to reach each of their locations. They all were tasked with climbing up the snow-capped mountains and rolling down to a location where they would find a table with a rifle on top of it. The Bone brother’s location was a frozen lake, in the middle of which, the question briefcase was placed. They had to shoot down 5 Bollinger champagne bottles, placed at various distances.
Once they picked up the rifle, they were given 3 minutes to shoot down all the bottles or the briefcase would be blasted off, eliminating them from the show. Despite being able to overcome all the challenges throughout the show successfully, they weren’t able to shoot down all the bottles. Thus, they went home without even being able to answer the question but took home 300k euros for sure.
Similarly, Josh and Kamara had to shoot down the marked points on the 5 ropes, holding the briefcase up against the rocks. They were able to shoot one rope each but three minutes were up before they could shoot all. Thus, they also took 300k euros home without even looking at the 500k question.
Lastly, Beth and Jen were tasked with shooting down 5 points on a wooden cabin door, behind which the briefcase was placed. Coming from the military, they were able to save the briefcase from being bombed. However, instead of a question, there was a key for the car Aston Martin DB5. Inside the car, they found a locked briefcase and an envelope. There was a picture of a cabin in the Alps of Grindelwald, and the location was set on the car’s GPS.
Once they reached the location, with the help of a local, they got on a train that could take them there. In the middle of the ride, an announcement was made for them to get off in the middle of a tunnel. They found harnesses and rock-climbing tools, taking which, they hiked up the tunnel and found themselves in the middle of a mountain range. There was a blue pouch hanging at a distance below them. Jen climbed down to get the pouch while Beth held onto the ropes for support.
Inside the pouch was a map of the train tunnel, guiding them to the next location. Walking down the tunnels, they found an open lift that took them to the same cabin, whose picture they found in the car. There they were informed that other teams had been eliminated and only they had made it this far. They were guided to walk out of the cabin and found the briefcase frozen in a block of ice. Once they broke it out, a key along with the usual screen & smoke cans were found inside.
On unlocking the locked case, 10 gold bars worth 500,000 euros were found. Just then Brian Cox’s voice spears through the chilly air and asks them the question worth half a million euros. They had to guess which one of the following 5 options was also worth 500k. The options were – A) Aston Martin DB5 Silver Birch, B) 24 bottles of Bollinger RD 1969 Champagnes, C) The Maximum bet in a casino in Monte Carlo, D) a 4-acre Private island in the Caribbean, E) 25 grams of radioactive Plutonium.
They chose E) 25 grams of radioactive Plutonium but the answer was incorrect and a red smoke came out of the can bottle. The correct answer was D) a 4-acre Private island in the Caribbean, as informed by the controller. Unfortunately, Beth and Jen shared the same fate as the other two teams and took away only 300k euros, despite coming so close. Therefore, none of the teams were able to win 1 million euros in the end.
