In the last episode, they got to know that Rod Dixon and the Latham brothers had high levels of a drug called Pentobarbital in the system. The drug is sometimes used to cure insomnia in extreme cases, as its excess dosage can put a person in rapid coma, or even lead to death. With this information, they come up with the theory that it has to be a woman behind the murders because of the saying that poison is usually a women’s weapon.
Thus they jot down all the women in the murdered men’s lives and tried to make a connection among them. They start with Rod Dixon’s wife, Margaret Carruthers and the more they have a conversation with her, every evidence seems to point towards her. And as always, Ediie is ready to jump the gun and accuse her of being a serial killer, but now that she has mended ways with Dulcie & promised to be a well-behaved partner. She doesn’t act without mutual agreement.
Abby also seems to be of great help in getting intel from the town people, while also getting her wedding preparations done. She brings back the goss that almost all the victims were abusive men, who mistreated the women in their lives. Supporting the claim that the perpetrator is a woman, even more. But what set things upside down is when the local make-up artist tells them that Sam O’Dwyer went missing even before Rod Dixon’s death.

The new development means, they have to look at the suspects from a new perspective and start anew. Apart from the murders, on a personal front, it is now understandable why Cath is always onto Dulcie. Apparently, Dulcie had an affair while working in Sydney & moving to Deadloch was a way to show commitment to her partner. That explains why Cath has been so anxious and always prying, since Eddiee’s arrival. At first, her character seemed to be possessive and controlling but it looks kinda valid now.
Coming to Sam and his death, it turns out that he was in fact not drugged but sustain an injury at the back of his head. It means someone hit him on the head and then murdered him. The finding of pube hair in his mouth could be probably linked to why the killer cut off the tongues. It’s possible that Sam was killed due to his intimate relations with someone.
Deadloch Episode 4 Review
Compared to the last episode, glad to see that Eddie’s character has been reeled back a bit. Her antics were going overboard and were not even funny, so it’s a sigh of relief that the viewers are no more subjected to that exaggeration anymore.
The other comic elements are placed effectively in the middle of the murder investigation, which pulls you out laughing as soon as things are going in a crime thriller direction. The creators of the show are making clever use of dark comedy and that’s the real hooking point of the show. On a side note, a co-worker like Sven is an asset to any workspace.
Deadloch is available for streaming on Prime Video.
