The Devil’s Plan Episodes 5-9 Highlights
In episode 5, the main match was called ‘secret number’. In this game, the contestants were required to pick up one card from 1-100 and that will be their number. The challenge was to figure out everyone’s secret number correctly to win extra pieces. They were also given four cards consisting of plus, minus, multiply and divide signs and by using them with one another in the contact room, they would get the conclusive sum of their numbers, as per the mathematical sign they used. Contestants could also win extra pieces by betting on who would go to jail at the end.
Once again, the alliances created in the past few episodes between Orbit and underdogs and Seok-jin, Si-won & Dong-jae were causing some hindrance. The latter three decided to split up and win the trust of other members yet contestants were still wary of them. Orbit had the master scheme of getting everyone safe and nobody gets eliminated but turns heavy on himself. People started to feel that he was not letting others play the game as they wanted and it’s a survival show after all, so what’s the point in saving everyone together?
Despite Dong-jae, Seok-jin and Si-won’s efforts to make alliances with others, they suspected them of sharing the secret numbers among themselves. Suh Yu-min, who had paired up with Dong-jae and Lee Hye-seong, ended up revealing her team’s numbers to Orbit’s team because she believed that Dong-jae had already betrayed them. However, it was just a misunderstanding and helped Orbit’s team members. Eventually, Dong-jae & Hye-sung were eliminated because they were not able to guess the correct numbers. And Joon-bin with Yeon-woo were sent to jail.

Dang-jae’s elimination created a kind of rift among Orbit’s alliance members and Si-won & Seok-jin. They were disappointed that a smart contestant was eliminated so early and started questioning their underdog ideology & who is even an underdog here. The prize match later in the evening brought the drifted members together, as they played the game of word tower. They had to create words using the letters given to them and stack them up like a tower.
There were 3 rounds, in the first one they had to create country names, the second round was about fruits and the third one was about animals. They were successful in putting their brains together & won another 100 million won. The next day, the main match called ‘zoo’ was about making a combination using animal pictures on a collective board. Each contestant was asked to pick three animal cards and make a combination with them. There was an A side & a B side, where different combinations would be put up in the span of 5 rounds and they could bid on either side, which would be favourable to them.
This was the point where the underdog alliance could be seen breaking apart. By the end of the game, Si-won and Seung-kwan ended up going to prison, due to their lowest scores. In the prize match, the remaining contestants were divided into teams of 3,2,2 and were separated in different rooms. They were tasked with balancing different colour cubes on the machine and finding out the exact weight of each colour block. They had red, green, blue, yellow and purple cubes, each ranging a weight between 2-20. Despite coming close, they were not able to win another 100 million won.
Meanwhile, in prison, Si-won and Seung-kwan became close and tried hard to crack the password of the hidden safe. On the outside, Yeon-woo and Joon-bin sought Seok-jin’s help to find any clue for it. It gave an idea to him and he ended up finding the password with the help of his pieces. In the ninth episode, the main match was called laying grass. It was a tetris like game where they had to create 5×5, 6×6, 7×7 squares by places green pieces in such a way.
They also had exchange coupons to replace any piece and benefit boxes on the table, with the help of it they could take away other’s pieces etc. Si-won and Yeon-woo decided to team up and played actively by attacking Orbit specifically. The game was going well, where nobody would get eliminated, until Seok-jin played his last move and sent Yeon-woo home instead. At first, it seemed like he did it so there would be one less contestant in the game but it was rather a planned move to go to prison with Si-won.
They ended up being the bottom two contestants and went to the prison to open and find out what’s in the password protected safe. On the other hand, the remaining contestants were playing memory game to win pieces and add 100 million won to the prize money. The prisoners were successful in opening the safe, which turned out to be a hidden cave behind the fake wall. What exactly lies there will be revealed in the next episodes.
Final Thoughts: Compared to the last four episodes, the challenges have become bit difficult and even cracks have started to appear in different alliances. More contestants are diverting towards individual play and that’s more interesting to see. Didn’t expect that Boo Seung-kwan would be able to survive till the end, but he has somehow reached to the semi-finals and he could turn the game around by making his own decisions & not getting swayed.
I really didn’t understand Orbit’s ideology of us vs them, because everyone’s on the same level & only one will be the winner. Either it was his gameplan to win confidence of various people to have the game in his favour until the concluding match. But his plan doesn’t seem to work anymore and people are rather focusing on their survival first.
The Devil’s Plan Episodes 5-9 are available for streaming on Netflix. New Episodes will be released on October 10, 2023.
