The contestants had another match-up date in Kyoto, where the ones who chose each other would be going on a date. Takayuki ‘Taka’ Toda and Saki Kamata chose each other after days of almost avoiding. Along with them, Kiichi and Sayu also went on a date. While on a second date with another girl, Kiichi realised that maybe falling in love within a stipulated time might be difficult for him, until an instant spark lights up with any of the contestants.
On the other hand, Taka was able to finally reveal that he is only interested in Saki and had been only choosing her, all this while. Their time together brought both of them closer and they even went out for a walk later, on their own accord. They seem to have found a sense of comfort amongst each other and the more they conversed, they realised how similar they were in personalities. Some people might consider it a good thing to find another person just like them, but they seem to become a bit unsure if they should be with someone like them or a different individual with a contrasting personality.
While in Kyoto, the contestants were asked to cook their meals and as expected, Fuku took the lead along with the female contestants. The process of cooking together also gave women a chance to analyse how men behave in such situations. For example, Nona was displeased with Kei for not even trying to help with cooking and sitting leisurely. On the other hand, Okapi wasn’t a chef himself but he made an effort to assist, even if it was just to stir the onions, that gesture left a good impression on Nona.
Later on, Taka received the message to leave the house and come alone, meaning his time was over on the show. Once again the ladies were given time till 10 AM to propose to the eliminated man. After much consideration, Saki decides to propose to him since they had spent some good and meaningful time together. They confessed how she slowly felt herself leaning towards Taka and wanted to have a relationship with him. After watching the two having numerous dates with equal chemistry, one would expect that they would get engaged for sure.
However, something felt off when Saki was smiling throughout while proposing and he wouldn’t even bat a smile, just for courtesy. It felt like he was agonising over how to say no to her. It came as a surprise when he shared all the nice things about Saki and how he wanted to know her better but refused in the end. The fact that they should consider ‘marriage’ in the prospect future made him unsure. Thus, he declined her proposal & both of them walked out alone from the show.
With their exit, a new man entered the house named Keijiro Minoura. Even though he was interested in Anna initially, he made a good connection with Shizuka ‘Shi’ Eto as they went for a workout date. Again from Kyoto, the contestants travelled to Lake Biwa and had the experience of living in camps & barbeque parties. With less number of women on the show, another man was eliminated within a day and that turned out to be Fuku. Despite not having a strong romantic connection with anyone, his elimination became a teary affair for everyone.
Within a few minutes, Kiichi was also asked to leave the show, making it a double elimination. Unfortunately, none of the women proposed to either of them and they walked out solo. However, the next morning another man entered the show and for the first time, a woman contestant also joined them. Sora Shibata (26) who might be the youngest amongst the cast joined with Yushi Sogomoto, an MMA fighter. Owing to her bubbly personality, most of the male contestants expressed interest in the new entrant and other women sensed competition.
They also moved their base from Lake Biwa to Nasu and were informed that matched-up couples would be living together. Towards the end of the show, all the women were standing in front of each house & the men were asked to stand in front of the person they chose. As Yushi walked ahead, the show credits rolled up.
Compared to the last four episodes, the latest ones were much better and followed through on the dates properly. The way they build up Taka and Saki’s journey, makes everyone believe that at least one couple will be formed on the show. But everything came crashing down as Taka backed out last minute from commitment. At first, it seemed like Saki was being too cautious, even when Taka was opening his heart to her. But now it seems that she was right in being wary of him. At this point, it’s unclear who would match up with whom but we can expect some heartbreaks for sure.
Love Deadline is available for streaming on Netflix. New episodes will be released on February 6, 2024.
