Delightfully Deceitful Episode 5

Delightfully Deceitful Episode 5 reveals glimpses about Moo-young (Kim Dong-wook) and Ro-um’s early life and the struggles that they went through. Also known as Beneficial Fraud (이로운 사기), the K-Drama is directed by Lee Soo-hyun.

It was previously revealed that Moo-young’s family life was not as happy as one would have expected. He helped her mother to run away from his abusive father and in the latest episode, it was shown that his father’s factory went bankrupt.

All the people who lost their money, hauled him to give the money back. Right then, a lawyer came to his help and even represented him in court, without charging any fee. This was the turning point in his life to aspire to become a lawyer who helps other people.

Meanwhile, in the present day, Ro-um (Chun Woo-hee) is suspicious of Moo-young’s willingness in joining her cause of revenge/scam. He tells her that he will stand by her till the end when she will need a lawyer to defend her actions. Although she doesn’t believe him, bringing Moo-young into the team could be helpful. Ro-um then devises a plan to scam Park Jong-gu, she gets information about him from Director Shin’s secretary. He is the man that Ro-um tried to kill in the hospital.

It’s not clear how he is related to the foundation but Jong-gu has been involved in petty crimes & illegal gambling for most of his life. Thus, she tries to lure him to a fake gambling den and scam him out of his money. For the operation, she calls upon the other Jeokmok kids – Da-jun, Ringo and Na-sa. Moo-young gets to know that these kids were like an elite group of criminals, groomed by the foundation.

On the surface, it was an ordinary institution imparting education to smart kids. In the basement, they would train the four kids to become smart criminals. They were even abused and often overworked in the hostile environment. Traumatised by their experience in their early years, the individuals still suffer from the after-effects that hinder them in their daily lives.

They often fall into addiction and other criminal activities as that’s all they know. Na-sa in particular has taken money from loan sharks and is having trouble returning the complete amount. By scamming Jong-gu he will be able to get away from the sharks safely. They start planning for everything, weeks in advance. Ro-um presents herself as Lee Se-hwa, abroad return daughter of a big conglomerate, who is looking for a business with Jong-gu’s company. Through her charms, she enthrals him & sneakily invites him to the gambling den in Na-sa’s garage basement.

Meanwhile, the ultimate target of the Jeokmok kids is to take down the President of the foundation, Jang Kyung-ja. She could be the one behind killing Ro-um’s parents and sending her to jail. Now that Director Shin Ki-ho is dead, they have to find ways to reach Kyung-ja, who has returned to Korea with a new company called Navis Well being. We also got to know that Probation officer Ko Yo-han had a friend named An Yoon-sik, who died in the past. It’s not revealed how, but it left a scar on Yo-han’s heart.

It’s also to be noted that Kyung-ja was married to An Chae-hong, the original President, who passed down the position to his wife. Considering how Yo-han’s friend & the president had the same family name, they could possibly be related & died due to the association with the foundation. This could explain Yo-han’s obsession with Ro-um and keeping track of her activities, as he might be trying to uncover the mystery behind his friend’s death.

It seemed like Moo-young was almost integrated into the team of scammers and as a test, Ro-um wanted him to use the insurance policy money that she scammed from the adoptive parents, featured in the last episodes. Moo-young is hesitant to use it but gives in to her demands. In the last days of their scam operation for Jong-gu, she calls him to the garage, along with Moo-young and planted the whole scene. However, just then police comes banging at the door as they got a report for illegal gambling.

It turns out that Ro-um was the one who tipped the police & she runs away from the scene by locking others inside. It was her trap for Moo-young to test his loyalty to the team. Even if he became a part of the team, he had nothing to lose & by getting caught in the gambling scandal, his career will also be on the line.

Delightfully Deceitful Episode 5 Review

The episode’s ending proves how detached Ro-um is from everyone else. She only cares about getting her revenge and has no regard for other people, a completely opposite personality to Moo-young. However, it’s certain that he didn’t get himself into the mess without having a plan & might be a step ahead of her trapping plan. The preview showed Ro-um going back to prison for some crime, it can be predicted that Moo-young played a reverse card on her.
