Doctor Cha Ending Explained
Doctor Cha episode 16 picks up right from the motorbike shop where Dr Roy and In-ho are fighting about giving their livers to Dr Cha. Eventually, they ask her to choose a person among them and she even points a finger at the motorcycle she had been eyeing to ride. Further telling them that she won’t be taking anybody’s liver and will figure something out on her own. Meanwhile, Seung-hee is also seen visiting a cancer patient care hospital that was run by her family and she is contemplating if she should take charge of it instead.
Meanwhile, Jeong-suk’s treatment is not going well and she is left with no other option than to get a transplant. Dr Roy insists again to let him help her but she refuses and goes home for some time. Back at her in-law’s home, she finishes all the tasks that she started but didn’t complete, like painting the remaining cabinets and putting them on, making side dishes for everyone like she used to and packing up all her stuff in boxes. She even writes letters to her children, as if bidding her final goodbyes.
Does Cha Jeong-suk Get a Liver Transplant?
When other family members come home, they encounter Doctor Cha cleaning up the house and how she has made the house. Seeing her bidding goodbye to everyone, In-ho decides to sign the divorce papers and give it to her. It was his way of showing that she doesn’t have to feel obliged to forgive him and stay with him, in case he gives her liver to him. By giving the signed papers, he tells her to agree to the transplant & live a long life without having to deal with him as her husband.
Seeing his sincerity, Jeong-suk agrees to take In-ho’s liver and gets the transplant procedure done. Fortunately, everything goes well and when she recovers, they submit the divorce papers and are finally separated from each other. However, there were no hard feelings among them as they even had a meal together.

What Happens to Jeong-suk, In-ho and Roy Kim?
The show takes a three-year leap, where Doctor Cha has completed her residency and become a Family medicine specialist. She transformed the building which she owned into a cafe with her clinic. The ground floor served as a cafe while the first floor had her office. Also, the roof was used to grow all kinds of veggies by her mother. She even gets a motorcycle license, since she became interested in it. Meanwhile, In-ho becomes the youngest Hospital director and is apparently single, since Seung-hee broke up with him right before the liver surgery.
Finally, Dr Roy also confessed his feelings to Jeong-suk, after the surgery but she turned him down as she never imagines a future with him. We also get to know that he did donate the bone marrow to his father, not out of love but as a doctor to help a patient. After the leap, he is seen dating someone else.
Seung-hee and Eun-seo
Seung-hee successfully took over the cancer care hospital and even joined the Gusan Hospital as an affiliate to help her patients in need. She casually meets up with In-ho sometimes, mainly to ask for his help with the patients. After getting to know about the divorce, Eun-seo meets up with In-ho and tells him to date his mother again. Even though he thinks that’s not possible after everything, he decides to stay on good terms with both of them.
Yi-rang, Jung-min and So-ra
Yi-rang gets accepted into the Art school that she applied for and even apologises to Eun-seo, when they coincidentally meet in a shop. Jung-min completes his military service and decides to go back to the hospital to complete his residency. So-ra is seen getting a pregnancy test at the convenience store but the result is negative. However, it makes her think about her married life with Jung-min and even he seems to be on board to start a family with her.
Doctor Cha Review
The show ends on an emotional and heartwarming note, as Doctor Cha Jeong-suk is grateful for a second chance in life. She is able to achieve her career goals and is spending every day giving back to other people and helping everyone through volunteer programs. Despite everything, she is on good terms with her ex-husband, In-ho, who is also repenting his bad deeds by helping as many people as he can as a doctor.
Overall, it was a fairly well-written show where even the supposed ‘bad characters’ grow on you. Some things were certainly dragged in the last few episodes but the creators tied all the ends. Popularly, the audience wanted Jeong-suk to end up with Dr Roy but the creators tried to highlight self-growth and independence. Choosing him means Jeong-suk would have to divide her focus on creating another family with him, while she could use that time on her career & do whatever she had put on hold due to her married life.
