King the Land Episode 2 reveals more about Gu-won and Sa-rang’s early years that have led them to their present positions. The show is created by Cheon Sung-il, directed by Im Hyun-wook and the screenplay is written by Choi Rom.
Titled 킹더랜드 in Korean, it stars Lee Jun-ho as Gu-won, Im Yoon-a as Cheon Sa-rang, Go Won-hee as Oh Pyung-hwa, Kim Ga-eun as Kang Da-eul, Ahn Se-ha as Noh Sang-sik, Kim Seon-young as Gu Hwa-ran and several others.

After catching Sa-rang in his bathroom, Gu-won gives her some privacy to get decent. She tries to avoid him but his phone was with her and thus they eventually come face to face. He asks her to apologise for today & for the time when she threw him off the treadmill. She apologises for the mess in his room but gives him another earful for the treadmill incident. Before he could explain that he was not the pervert who sent her the room key, she cuts him off & they go their separate ways.
Coincidentally at his inaugural ceremony as the new Head manager of the hotel, the best talent Sa-rang had to give him a bouquet. But on reaching the stage, he gets a panic attack and it’s revealed that he is traumatised by fake smiles, since his childhood. Given their encounter, Gu-won finally gives her a piece of his own mind by clearing the misunderstanding about the Tiger t-shirt. And tells her to stay away from his sight & to never give a fake smile in his presence. Given that they work in the same place, they find each other again at the welcome dinner. When Gu-won’s father makes a toast, she is the only one who cheers loudly & gets noticed by everyone.
His father then calls her up to make a proper toast for his son. However, each of her action gets on Gu-won’s nerve & seem fake like her smile. Her energy and attitude get rewarded by his father, who gifts her the best part of a Sashimi fish. On the other hand, her friends are also struggling at their jobs, due to rude customers or colleagues. When Sa-rang’s grandmother and boyfriend turn out to be busy, she shares the 700 million won worth of sashimi with her friends.

Sa-rang’s work is also filled with rude customers and she finds herself in a pickle when an actress and influencer tries to upgrade the room, without paying extra. Even though she acts according to the protocol, the guest starts to make a scene & attracts Gu-won’s attention. He shows the actress her place in a chic manner and rescues Sa-rang to his room. She thinks it was Gu-won’s way of helping her but he actually wanted to discuss the promotional video interview that he is being forced to do.
Apparently, Sa-rang is chosen to interview him, thus he gives her the set of questions from his side & strictly tells her not to ask questions like his favourite colour etc. Also, they will be going to Jeju Island to film the video that will be broadcasted on various channels. On the personal front, Gu-won tries to find information about his mother, Han Mi-so, who also used to be the director at the hotel but to no avail. Sa-rang also goes on a date with her boyfriend, who seems oblivious to her well-being & feelings. He is tactless and drags her to his reunion on their date night. It turns out to be all female classmates & he leaves her alone in a corner, to have fun with his friends.
Later on, Gu-won, Sa-rang and Sang-sik meet up at the airport for the work trip. For a moment, he gets mesmerised by her and causes some trouble with another passenger, while trying to hide his feelings. Money comes to his rescue & the man lets him go after getting a check for a million won. On the day of the interview, Sa-rang gets another set of questions that are sent by Gu-won’s sister, Hwa-ran.
King the Land Episode 2 Review
Despite being hopeful for the show after its pilot premiere, it doesn’t stand up to the expectations. Even the integrated jokes and comedy are too cliche that doesn’t even bring a chuckle. The character of Gu-won looks like a prick at this moment and nobody would want the female lead to end up with a personality like him. Using money to fix up any issue & being rude is just tasteless and gives him no edge. Also, the editing of the show is so choppy, jumping from one scene to another. There’s hardly any time to connect with the characters or empathise with their situation.
King the Land is currently available on Netflix in selective regions. It is broadcasted on JTBC at 10:30 PM KST on Saturday and Sunday.
