Lies Hidden in My Garden Episode 3 starts with a flashback when Sang-eun (Lim Ji-yeon) finds some stuff that belongs to other people. When she asks her husband about it, he says that every single thing is worth millions of wons and calls them retributive justice. Yun-beom (Choi Jae-rim) indirectly tells her that he punishes people for the crimes they do and gets paid a hefty amount for it. When asked why he does that, then he replies because he is the one capable of that.
At present time, only his brother comes to the funeral house and tells Sang-eun that her husband had debt. The brothers had invested in something that turned out to be a scam and they lost all the money. Yun-beom had invested 200 million by taking out the lease on the house, along with bank loans.
Sang-eun couldn’t believe what she was hearing and when the brother passes her the condolence money from the family, worth only 300,000 won, she loses it. It is then revealed that Yun-beom’s parents had died early and his uncle’s family took care of him. However, he had been quite good to them as he paid for his brother’s honeymoon & the parent’s various expenses.
After the breakdown, Sang-eun encounters Moon Joo-ran (Kim Tae-hee) in the washroom and tries to have small talk. But she doesn’t indulge at all. The phone in Sang-eun’s hand catches her eye as it was the same one that the girl in the picture was holding. Not being able to get through her, Sang-eun calls Park Jae-ho (Kim Sung-oh) outside to talk. Meanwhile, Jae-ho’s colleagues ask Joo-ran if her husband’s health is alright since he got some sleeping pills from him. This increases her suspicion about her husband lying about not going night fishing.
While outside, Sang-eun tries to give the phone to Jae-ho by asking if he was getting blackmailed by her husband. She tells him that she doesn’t know anything yet. But he is unfazed by it all and says that he doesn’t need to negotiate anything with her because it doesn’t concern him. Sang-eun still insists that there must be a reason why her husband left her the phone and she might find it out soon too. Jae-ho tries to intimidate her by saying that Yun-beom made wrong choices in life and asks if she will try to blackmail as well, just like her husband.
Curious about what’s going on outside, Joo-ran tries to go out as well & catches them having a conversation from upstairs. When Sang-eun looks in her direction, she tries to backstep and bumps into her mother. Suffering from dementia, she tries to set up Joo-ran with her son and grabs her tightly to take her home. Trying to get out of her grip, Joo-ran pushes too strongly and the mother falls hard. Seeing this, Sang-eun gets enraged and confronts Joo-ran that her husband is the one who killed Yun-beom. Jae-ho also reaches there & takes Joo-ran away quickly.

However, her words take over Joo-ran’s mind and she tries to find evidence by looking at the dashcam footage and the GPS search history but everything is deleted. Even though Jae-ho was shown sleeping, he comes following his wife and asks what she is doing in the car. She makes up the excuse of losing an earring and he assures her that he will find it in the morning. The next morning she goes to look at the CCTV footage of her neighbour’s camera but she badgers her about the reason for it & she turns back. Oh Hae-soo (Jung Woon-sun) gets curious and while going through the footage, she finds Jae-ho going somewhere in a hurry on the night of Yun-beom’s murder.
The police are also onto Jae-ho for transferring 100 million won to Yun-beom’s illegal bank account and he makes the excuse of lending him money as a rebate for help in their merger with a big hospital. The officer is suspicious but has to take his word on it until hard evidence is found. At home, he finds both earrings in the jewellery box and realises that his wife is onto something. So he takes one earring and keeps it in his car. Then he tries to tell Joo-ran to stay away from the neighbour since she was in prison for killing her husband. But the strange thing is that nobody ever knew that she was even his wife & lived there.
Joo-ran feels that he is trying to stop her from getting the CCTV footage from her and she furiously questions him back about his whereabouts that night. She clearly tells him that he wasn’t anywhere at home when she woke up and to tell her the truth, so that she can help him. But he takes her to the car and shows the earring, saying he found the one that she lost. She gets confused and anxiously says that she never lost it. However, he still tries to gaslight her and starts to get angry at her for not being in the right state of mind. He blames her for their son Seung-jae’s depression and suicidal thoughts. This breaks her & she starts to doubt herself.
On the other hand, Seung-jae is trying to find his way out of the home by looking for apartments to live in & even asks Hae-soo if he can seek her help if he ever needs it. Sang-eun puts her husband’s ashes in the Columbaria and while having lunch, she gets to know that her husband had taken 5 insurances in his name. Hearing this, she rushes to the insurance office but they refuse to give her anything since his case is considered as suicide. If the investigation concludes it as murder, then they can pay her 520 million won. Sang-eun keeps on repeating that he didn’t take his own life as she knows it very well.
The real meaning of her words is revealed when she thinks about the event of that night while eating an apple on her apartment rooftop. We get to see that the person in the car who swapped seats was none other than Sang-eun herself. It means she is the one who killed Yun-beom and is trying to frame Jae-ho for it. When she comes back to her apartment, Joo-ran is seen waiting at her door.
Lies Hidden in My Garden Episode 3 Review
In a way, it was Sang-eun’s retributive justice on her abusive husband by killing him. She was suspicious at first when she came back all drenched at night with a gloomy mood. But her actions felt like she was feeling bad for her husband, even though he treated her so badly. It was unexpected to know that she is the one behind it all and makes us curious to know what could have led to that. She might have realised that a divorce won’t help her case and the only way out is to get rid of him completely.
On the other hand, Jae-ho comes into question and if he didn’t meet Yun-beom at all that night, then where did he go? And what is he trying to hide by gaslighting Joo-ran so much? It is starting to feel like Joo-ran will be helping her by putting the blame on Jae-ho despite knowing that he didn’t commit the murder. As it will be her way out of his controlling hands.
