My Perfect Stranger Episode 13 Recap/Review: Meaning Behind the Watch

My Perfect Stranger Episode 13

My Perfect Stranger Episode 13, also known as Run Into You, forces Hae-jun to reveal everything about his real identity and where he came from. He is being suspected as the culprit but the killer is at large.

The episode starts with Chairman Yoon buying a watch and even getting it engraved with a quote that he wrote. He even tells the shopkeeper that he is buying it to pass on to his grandson. The reason was that he saw a dream where a tiger jumped and came into his arm. He believes it’s a good dream about his future grandkid.

Meanwhile, Hae-jun (Kim Dong-wook) is arrested by Officer Dong-sik (Choi Young-woo) as he found him hovering over Bum-ryong’s corpse with bloody hands. Yoon-young tries to explain that they came to help, but the officer doesn’t believe it. Hae-jun asks for a minute & tells Yoon-young to take care of Soon-ae and if he doesn’t come back then she should drive the car back to the future. She refuses & tells him to come back safe, as she will be waiting at home.

At the hospital, the matchbox with the killer’s note is found in Soon-ae’s pocket & the officer at the scene reports the handwriting is the same as the other notes. Listening to this, it strikes Yoon-young to ask Mi-suk about the real culprit.

She tells her that her plan has failed as the police captured Teacher Yoon as the culprit, which means Min-su will come back, as another murder happened when he was in custody. So, it’s better to reveal the culprit before someone else dies. But she doesn’t say a word.

In the police station, Dong-sik interrogated Hae-jun about his whereabouts on the day of the previous murders. He tells him everything since there’s no point in lying about it. This leads to more suspicions & Dong-sik runs a background check on him & finds absolutely no record of his existence. Baffled by it, he once again asks Hae-jun to explain why he was present at every crucial moment & even had the matchbox with the note.

This leaves Hae-jun with no other option but to tell everything, so that they can catch the culprit before time runs out. He requests Dong-sik to bring Chairman Yoon to his house, where he will explain everything. At the house, he directly leads them to the investigation room with all the documents & news reports from the near future. He tells them that he came from the future & he is Chairman’s grandson.

Dong-sik refuses to believe his story & wants to take him to the mental hospital instead. On the other hand, Chairman Yoon spots the watch on Hae-jun’s wrist & asks to take a look. It was the same watch that he had bought & got engraved yesterday. The watch makes him believe that Hae-jun might actually be telling the truth. While in the hospital, Soon-ae also regains consciousness & testifies that even though she didn’t see the culprit, Teacher Yoon came to rescue her only.

Dong-sik also gets to know about Soon-ae’s testimony when Yoon-young comes home looking for Hae-jun. To get more proof of his claims, he gets a DNA test of Hae-jun & Chairman Yoon and even keeps an eye on him for days. Chairman Yoon takes him out for drinks, wanting to get closer to his future Grandson but Hae-jun’s cold treatment makes him realise that he might not have been good to him, as he hopes. He also reveals the meaning behind the quote on the back of the watch.

“Tempus fugit amor manet” is what was engraved, which translates to – Time flies but love remains. It indicates how Chairman Yoon loved his grandson even before he was born & even though he might have been cold to him, the love was always there. Hae-jun end up telling him about her mother as well since he didn’t have the heart to share how his mother left after his birth. This makes him curious about his mother & he visits her at the tea house.

The place was completely empty and he was about to go back when the owner stops him. She brings the tea for both of them & sitting in front of him, reveals that Hae-jun is her last customer. She is closing the cafe & leaving the village. This makes Hae-jun confused as she’s going away too soon than expected since she hasn’t even conceived him yet.

After that meet-up, Hae-jun asks Yeon-woo about his girlfriend & if everything’s alright. And he replies that all’s fine between them & even had a date recently. After attending Bum-ryong’s funeral, Hae-jun visits Soon-ae in the hospital with a fruit basket. But the room was already full with so many baskets & flowers sent by village people. However, one basket catches his eye & another matchbox with the killer’s note is found. It says, ‘Glad that you woke up, see you soon’.

My Perfect Stranger Episode 13 Review

The mystery behind the killer is not solved yet and there’s not even a suspect to put the blame on. At this point, even Yeon-woo seems suspicious but Hae-jun would have identified his father’s handwriting, if he was the killer. With only a week left, the creators have really done a mindblowing job of keeping the suspense alive till the end. However, if the culprit turns out to be some tertiary character with no relevance to anyone then it would be really disappointing.
