Sixty Minutes Review

Octavio Bergmann, an MMA fighter is shown to be getting ready for a match that had been postponed, quite many times. Out of all the days, the possibility of the match happening is quite high but at the same time, it’s his daughter, Leonie’s 7th birthday. He has everything planned from a cake to gifting her an adopted cat and even a card but has difficulty expressing his emotions in words. In his mind, everything is set – once he defeats his opponent, he will rush back to his daughter and try to reach by 6-7ish.

However, nothing seems to work out in his favour. Octavio doesn’t have a good record of showing up for his daughter & estranged ex. Like all the other times, his promises seem like mere words that he probably wouldn’t keep and will end up with a disappointed Leonie. Thus when his ex tries to confirm and gets to know that Octavio is about to get into the ring to fight instead of being on his way – she loses all faith in him.

She gives him the ultimatum to show up in an hour or she will be filing for sole custody. This one sentence makes Octavio change his mind and run to his daughter before he loses her. What he didn’t realise was that a lot was at stake in the fight & by running away, he had become the target of the mafia. The match was already fixed with all the money put on his victory, with him not showing up, everything goes down the drain and these goons won’t sit back until they get every penny lost from Octavio, even if it means killing him.

In an overview, there isn’t much story to it. There is a 60-minute timer running in the background, while Octavio is running to his destination and fighting off different goons at every nook and corner. Somehow they always know where he is every minute and instead of simply defeating a single opponent in a ring, he is having multiple street fights throughout the way to his daughter’s house.

It would have been much more time efficient if he had simply defeated his opponent, considering it was already rigged in his favour, and then taken a car to reach wherever. But then we wouldn’t have been able to witness his superhero-esque fatherly love to show up at the dot. If you are a fan of MMA-style fighting then there are some decent sequences to enjoy (I mean that’s all there is).

Otherwise, it’s a linear story like a game mission, where the character has to reach the destination in a stipulated time and it’s pretty predictable. There’s no additional backstory or layers to make us more familiar with the lead’s personality or life, all we know is that he is an aggressive fighter, who doesn’t know how to drive. Overall, it’s a mindless watch to put for company, while you doing simple chores or scrolling the internet.

Rating: 1.5/5
