Street Woman Fighter Season 2 Episode 1 – No Respect Battles

Redy (1Million) vs Bada (Bebe)

The first battle to be shown on the show was between Redy and Bada, who used to be in the same crew but grew apart. According to Redy, when the crew disbanded, she tried to connect with Bada (who was elder than her) to join her new team but she didn’t reciprocate the same and it hurt Redy. Thus, she called upon Bada to show that she was much better than her in terms of skills. However, Bada won the battle by getting votes from all the 3 judges and even Judge Monika ended up calling Redy a kid, who still needs to learn.

Kirsten (Jam Republic) vs Waackxxxy (Mannequeen)

For the second battle, Kirsten was shown to call upon the stage and challenge the person she gave the no-respect sticker. She invited Waackxxxy as she thought of her as a strong contender that she would like to take on. As expected, both the dancers were equally talented and ended up with a draw from the judges. They had to battle it out again by dancing at the same time and eventually Kirsten won by a hair.

Yoonji (Mannequeen) vs Kirsten (Jam Republic)

Next, Yoonji was called on for a battle and she decided to take revenge for her team member’s loss by challenging Kirsten again. Yoonji gave her all by using techniques and enjoying the rhythm of the song to the fullest. Due to her creative moves in between to show off the lyrics, she won the battle against Kirsten, who once again showed off her strong skills.

Harimu (1Million) vs Redlic (Mannequeen)

To create more drama among the teams, Harimu was chosen as the next battler and she challenged her previous team leader and teacher Redlic. They also used to be in the same crew but due to some misunderstandings, Redlic disbanded the team which remains a sore memory for Harimu. As they faced each other, past memories seemed to bubble up in their minds, making them emotional – especially Redlic.

Redlic couldn’t show off her best skills due to her emotional state, while Harimu danced for the whole 40 seconds and thus won the battle. However, she seemed to have resolved the misunderstanding in her after-performance interview and wished Redlic the best.

Soll (Deep N Dap) and Vessi (Ladybounce) vs Audrey (Jam Republic)

Audrey of Jam Republic caught everyone’s attention due to her young and innocent looks and many thought of her being less skilled than her established team members. She was chosen as the worst dancer by 33 dancers on the show and even got 6 no-respect stickers. Among them, 2 of her battles with Soll and Vessi were shown, where she surprised everyone with her high-quality skills and won both battles.

Lia Kim (1Million) vs Mina Myong (Deep N Dap)

Towards the end of the episode, Lia Kim was called up to challenge someone and she chose Mina Myong. Both of them have a long history of working together in 1Million but drifted apart due to some reasons. Mina even accuses Lia of taking credit for the choreographies she didn’t exactly make. At first, she didn’t even deem her as a challenger to battle against and claimed that she won’t battle Lia. But at the moment, she grits her teeth and decides to face her, which will be shown next week.

It is quite obvious that the creators have tried hard to create lots of drama against the teams, even if there was nothing serious. It does help in recognising the team members faster but also takes away the focus from being a dance competition show foremost. The episode mostly focused on Jam Republic’s Kirsten and Mina Myong, whereas there’s hardly anything about Tsubakill or other teams.

It was also a bit weird for the contestants to be so fixated on Jam Republic members’ body shapes. Like constantly pointing at Kirsten’s hips for dancing effortlessly, instead of acknowledging her dancing skills that help her body move that way. Also, in the preview, Redlic was seen complaining about Latrice being able to dance certain steps due to her physical strength & body and saying that she seems lacking as her body isn’t built like that. Either the creators shouldn’t try to be global and then degrade people different from them or they shouldn’t try to stir up drama that would hurt someone on a personal level.

Street Woman Fighter Season 2 is broadcast on Mnet and is also available for streaming on Viu in selective regions.
