Twin Love is a dating reality show released on Prime Video on November 17, 2023. It is produced by Amazon Studios and ITV America’s ITV Entertainment; executive produced by Simon Thomas, Bernie Schaeffer, Kenny Rosen, and Jessica Nahmias. The reality show is hosted by TV personalities Brie and Nikki Garcia. There are 9 episodes with a runtime of about 45-59 minutes.

The cast of the show includes Brittnay and Whittnay James, Sabella and Hanna Radostitz, Cameron and Ceara McKegney, Zoie and Baelee Bogart, Morgan and Madison Ramsey, Seth and Luke Banks, Jair and Micquel Bernier, Matthew and Andrew Beatty, Samir and Samer Akel, David and Aaron Cabello, Akash/Kush and Krish/Luv Chandani, Maddie and Gaby Capozza, Morgaine and Rhiannon Smith, Shelby and Ally Baker.

Twin Love is a social dating experiment that follows the love lives of ten sets of identical twins. The twins will be divided into two houses, each with an “identical” cast, and will embark on a unique search for love. The series aims to explore whether the twins’ similarities extend to their romantic desires by observing if they pursue similar partners or if their choices diverge. This will be the first time some of the twins have been separated from their siblings.

Twin Love Review (Episodes 1-9)

In the first episode, Brie and Niki welcome each set of twins individually and a little introduction about them is given to the audience. After some small talk about their siblings, the hosts break the news that they will be living in separate houses (Garden & Vista) with no contact with each other. Many of the sibling duos have never separated from each other and that becomes the first challenge for them to overcome. Once all 5 pairs enter their designated houses, Brie Garcia goes to the Vista House and Nikki to the Garden House.

The contestants are made to stand facing each other and asked to pick up the picture of the person they find hot. When the results of the two houses are compared, 3 twins pick the same, initially showing that maybe the identical siblings can have the same preference in dating. Nothing much happens on the first day and mostly the people who picked each other, try to get to know one another. And quite soon on the very next day, another set of twins – Maddie and Gaby enter the house.

With more sets of women than men, the contestants soon realise that many more new people will be introduced in the coming days. It also gives a chance to the inmates to explore their chances if they haven’t found a connection with the initial contestants. However, a stirring rule is revealed by the host – that there will be eliminations as well, and if one of the twins gets eliminated (not chosen by anyone to pursue further), their other sibling will be out of the show too. Regardless of whether they have a connection with someone or not.

In the first eliminations, men of one of the houses were given the task to choose the one, they would like to continue this journey with. Whoever didn’t get chosen by any of the men had to collect her twin from the other house and walk out. This rule puts pressure on the siblings to not only follow their hearts but also be mindful of their siblings since it could affect them. The best case scenario would be the same sets of twins dating each other – the strategy that Brittnay & Whittnay adopted with David & Aaron. Despite the evident similarity, the preferences were quite varying in the houses.

Nothing much happens in the first few episodes apart from interactions, eliminations and new entries. Towards the end of the third episode, the hosts bring a game that tests – Twin telepathy. Yet separated by a wall, the twins had to guess where their siblings were being touched and with what tool. The winning twins would get a chance to send video messages to each other because many of them were struggling without the other. Many contestants like Sabella, Seth, Brittnay etc were seen breaking down at moments due to the separation.

Similarly, in Twin Love episodes 4-7, some couples work on making their connection stronger while some explore other options to find the right fit. Some games are played in between, which usually involves testing how much the siblings duo are connected. New contestants also walked into the house which stirred some of the couples’ connection, forming love triangles and ensuing emotional drama.

In episodes 8 and 9, the contestants had a choice to make – to choose the person they wanted to be in a relationship with and reunite with their twin & their connection, in the same house. In case one of the twins doesn’t get asked out by anyone or refuses to pair up, they would stay on the show & enter as a third wheel in their twin’s relationship. Eventually, in the end, all the contestants were asked to individually vote for the best couple pair in the house, except for themselves & their siblings. The couple with the most votes would win the show and prize money as well.

Twin Love Review Final Thoughts

One of the things that I found unique to the show was how close-knitted the siblings were. In many cases, it looked like a co-dependent situation where the other couldn’t function without their twin. Some even left the show due to the overwhelming separation and it definitely felt like a missed opportunity. I mean it’s just a matter of days, one can hold out for that long at least. Or maybe because I don’t share such strong relationships with anyone, it’s hard to sympathise with their breakdown over that.

Initially, it looked like people were genuinely trying to find a connection. But once they realised that to be in the show they had to have someone who would choose them, they led people on without meaning to actually take it further. Either they were pressured to be with someone, so their twin could explore their love interest for long. As the show progressed, we became hopeful that maybe these pairs would end up together even after the show. But the last 5 minutes of episode 9 was a complete trainwreck, breaking all the expectations. Without spoiling much, I can say – most of it was all just for the show.
