Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Review

What would be anyone’s first thought when they find themselves amidst a zombie apocalypse? Maybe fear for their life and want to find a secure place. But Akira Tendo could only think about being late to his office and being berated by his boss. That’s the kind of life, he had been living since the day he joined his workplace, one year ago. Being a fresher, he thought he found the best workplace with a friendly environment in a production company, only to realise the deeply ingrained toxic culture that he had to abide by.

Even before the zombie apocalypse, he had been living the life of a work zombie and this new deadly development was his ticket out from the toxic work hell. With death being just a few steps away, he decides to live as he likes, until he becomes food for the zombies. Thus, he whips out his diary and starts writing the 100 things that he would like to do and complete them.

At first, it was only 10 wishes which included things like cleaning his house, dyeing his hair, riding a bike, having a lavish meal etc. Even though he was happy to do anything he wanted, the loneliness would come knocking down all joy. When he accidentally meets another person like him in the supermarket, it makes him think about the people in his life and if they are alive. Fortunately, he ends up meeting up with his best friend again, yet the question remains about what to do next.

Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Still 1
Still from Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead

Among the Zombie movies, it’s definitely a unique plot and even realistically, if someone’s work environment is so toxic, the apocalypse would be more than welcomed to avoid that. The first half of the film is completely entertaining, hilarious and full of adrenaline-filled action. Seeing Akira enjoying his newfound freedom is exhilarating to watch and more amusing when his best friend joins him.

However, in the second half, things take a bit serious route. While it’s compelling to watch how they co-relate the toxic work culture with becoming a zombie and the whole deadly situation works as a metaphor. But other aspects feel a bit lacking, like the storyline with Akira’s Boss, Kosugi. Personally, his character arc wasn’t that satisfactory and should have met with a bit more tragic end.

Other than that, it’s a fun film which transforms the absurdity, entertaining to watch. And if you ever wondered what sharks would look like with legs, then your imagination will be coming true on your screen and it looks even more frightening.

Rating: 3.5/5
