Burning Body Trailer unveils an upcoming Spanish crime mystery thriller, releasing next month on Netflix. Also titled El cuerpo en llamas, the screenplay of the series is written by Laura Sarmiento and directed by Jorge Torregrossa and Laura Mañá. It is said to be inspired by real events that took place in 2017.

The ensemble cast of the series includes Úrsula Corberó as Rosa, Quim Gutiérrez as Albert, José Manuel Poga as Pedro, Isak Férriz as Javi, Eva Llorach as Ester, Pep Tosar, Mamen Duch, Guiomar Caiado as Sofia, Raúl Prieto as Manu, Sergi Cervera as Néstor, Bruno Sevilla as Álvaro, Aina Clotet as Silvia, Aleida Torrent as Vanesa and others.

Netflix’s description of the series reads – When a police officer is murdered and set on fire, all eyes focus on two other agents: his girlfriend and her lover. In May 2017, the charred remains of police officer Pedro (José Manuel Poga) are found inside a burnt-out car at Barcelona’s Foix reservoir. What could have been concluded as an accident transpired into a public trial, revealing a network of toxic relationships, deceit, violence and sexual scandals.

The role of real-life Rosa Peral is played by Úrsula Corberó, popular for her role in Money Heist. The case actually became of such public interest due to the fact that Rosa had an affair with Albert Lopez, a fellow Urban Guard while being in a relationship with Pedro. Prying on their love triangle situation, much shocking information like she had also suffered a case of revenge porn months before in one of the police stations where she was stationed.

There have been some TV specials and documentary series on the same subject and how Rosa and Albert were found guilty by the jury. The Netflix series will put a fictional spin on the story, making it more dramatic and thrilling for entertainment purposes. The real-life perpetrators were eventually sentenced to 25 and 20 years in prison, which they are still serving and through the show we will witness the whole process.

Burning Body is scheduled to be released on September 8, 2023, only on Netflix.
